The power plant operated by the utility company CLECO, the destination of  most of the lignite.  Note the lack of vegetation inside the fence, as one historian referred to the scene, “It looks like Mars with grass.”

The two shovels of equal size operate 24 hours per day 7 days a week.  The lignite lies under the northern Louisiana sand and red clay destroying forever the historical significance of the battlefield.  Once mined, accurate interpretation is impossible.
