TEXANS CHAMPION MANSFIELD AT PRESERVATION SEMINAR
The Texas Civil War Preservation Seminar will be held Saturday, Nov. 20, at Hill College in Hillsboro. Sponsors are the Harold B. Simpson History Center of Hill College, the Austin Civil War Round Table and the Waco Civil War Round Table. The topic is "The Battle for Texas: Mansfield & The Red River Campaign." A news release from Dean Buddy Patterson at Hill College notes that participants will not only hear about the battle/campaign that saved Texas, they will learn of the 21st century tragedy of strip mining of the hallowed ground.

Speakers will include Gary Joiner, author of One Damn Blunder from Beginning to End who will give an overview;
Parker Hills, former U.S. Army general, historian and guide, who will cover the Battle of Mansfield; Don Frazier, professor of history at McMurry University in Abilene, who will discuss Texas and Texans in the campaign and Ed Bearrs, former chief historian of the National Park Service, who will cover why the campaign mattered. The event will conclude with a panel discussion on the battle and the effort to save the battlefield.

The seminar begins with a breakfast at 9 a.m. and a preview of the seminar. Lectures will be held throughout the day. The cost is $50. Also available will be a patrons breakfast and lunch with the speakers (and other benefits) at $125 per guest.  If you are interested in attending and need more information, you may contact Dean Patterson at (254) 582-2555, Ext. 256 or email him at patterson@hillcollege.edu.

TIME FOR A MAILING Can You Help?
Do you belong to a history group with a list you could share? We want to send an end-of-year mailing and need to assure that we are sending to people who are interested in the history or the U.S. Civil War. If you are willing to share a file with us (Excel or Access database, MS Word labels), we would appreciate it. If you prefer to send us mailing labels, that's even better because it saves us the cost of the labels.

SPECIAL HOLIDAY OFFER FOR YOU
As a special gift to you this holiday season, we are offering a special on the 140th anniversary burnished bronze commemorative medallions. You may purchase the first medallion at regular price and receive additional medallions at just $10 each. This is a great gift that can't be bought elsewhere. The beautiful medallions come with a card of authenticity and are packaged in black velour envelopes imprinted with Friends of the Mansfield Battlefield. If you have previously ordered medallions and would like to purchase additional medallions for gifts, each medallion will be $10.

If you would like to order multiple medallions and live in the Shreveport area, you can call Marilyn at 221-2853 to make arrangements to pick them up and avoid postage/handling charges.
